The Knot vs Zola vs Minted: Which Wedding Website Actually Wins?
Last updated on March 18th, 2026 at 08:54 pm
You’re going to spend about 45 minutes setting up your wedding website and then basically forget it exists. Your guests will use it for RSVPs and gift registry. It doesn’t need to be perfect — it needs to work. Here’s the honest breakdown so you can pick one and move on.
Why you actually need one
When you get engaged, every person you’ve ever met will immediately start asking you the same five questions. Where’s the venue? What do you want as a gift? When’s the RSVP deadline? Is there a hotel block? Can they bring their dog?
A wedding website answers all of it without you having to. An online registry keeps the gift situation organized. Pick one, set it up early, and stop answering the same texts.
The four main options
The platforms you’ll actually encounter: The Knot, WeddingWire, Zola, and Minted. Worth noting upfront — The Knot and WeddingWire are owned by the same company.
The Knot — Best overall planning tools
This is what my wife and I used. The planning app has a checklist that tells you what to do and when — genuinely useful when you’re staring down a two-year engagement and have no idea where to start.
Pros:
- Best planning checklist of any platform — tells you exactly what to do month by month
- Diverse registry: products, experiences, cash funds, all in one place
- Huge vendor directory
- AI tools for vendor recommendations based on style and budget
Cons:
- A lot going on — can feel overwhelming if you just want the basics
- Heavy on ads
- Vendor directory caveat: The Knot charges vendors a lot to be listed, which means the best vendors aren’t always at the top. Page 1 is who paid the most, not who’s best. If you find someone you like, contact them directly through their website — don’t use the built-in messaging or they may assume it’s a spam lead.
WeddingWire — Best for vendor research
WeddingWire does one thing better than everyone else: it shows you actual price numbers for vendors instead of just dollar signs. If budget transparency matters to you, that’s genuinely useful.
Pros:
- Real pricing numbers for vendors
- Clean website builder
- Planning tools comparable to The Knot
- AI budgeting and timeline tools
Cons:
- Registry is an afterthought
- Same vendor directory problem as The Knot — organized by who pays, not who’s best
- Go to vendor websites directly when you’re ready to reach out
Zola — Best modern experience
Zola is the cleanest all-in-one option. Registry, website builder, and planning tools are actually integrated instead of bolted together. Customer service is noticeably better than The Knot or WeddingWire, and they don’t run the same aggressive vendor sales operation.
Pros:
- Best registry + website integration
- Modern templates, easy to customize
- Responsive customer service
- Post-wedding discounts on unpurchased registry items
- Doesn’t charge vendors the same predatory rates — so the vendor directory is less pay-to-play
Cons:
- Smaller vendor directory
- Some items priced higher than retail
- Pay-per-lead model means some vendors won’t see your inquiry — contact vendors directly through their own website
Minted — Best for design
Minted is different from the others. It’s not trying to be a planning hub — it’s for couples who care about how things look. Wedding website templates designed by independent artists, matching stationery, invitations, thank you cards. If the aesthetic of your paper goods matters to you, Minted is worth a look. For planning tools, look elsewhere.
Pros:
- Genuinely unique website designs — not the same 6 templates everyone else uses
- Matching stationery and invitations from the same artists
- Free website option
- Wedding concierge service
Cons:
- Very limited planning tools
- Registry is not the focus
Which one should you pick?
For most couples: Zola or The Knot.
Zola if you want the cleanest experience and best customer service. The Knot if you want the most comprehensive planning tools and the checklist app is appealing.
WeddingWire is fine but mostly redundant if you’re already on The Knot. Minted is worth adding if stationery and design matter — it’s not an either/or.
Whatever you choose, one rule applies to all of them: when you find a vendor you like, contact them directly through their own website. Every platform has messaging features, and vendors on every platform treat those messages as low-priority or potential spam.
One more thing before you close this tab
Your wedding website is the logistics layer. It handles RSVPs and tells your aunt where to park. It’ll be out of date six months after your wedding.
Your photos are what you’ll actually have in 30 years.

Most couples spend more time picking a registry platform than they spend vetting their photographer. Don’t be that couple. If you’re in the early stages of planning and haven’t locked in a Bozeman wedding photographer yet — here’s our work and here’s how we approach pricing. No pressure, just worth a look while you’re in planning mode.
