The Woodlands at Cottonwood Canyon: Wedding Venue Guide

The Woodlands at Cottonwood Canyon is a full-service wedding venue 10 miles south of Bozeman. Single-location wedding day — meadow ceremony, the Great Room for reception, on-site cabins. Capacity up to 175 guests. Four packages from Fir ($7,000–$11,500) to the all-inclusive Aspen ($16,500–$20,000). Family-owned since 2004 with 1,000+ events under their belt.

I’ve shot a lot of weddings at The Woodlands at Cottonwood Canyon, and it’s one of the most reliable venues in the Bozeman area. It’s tucked into the trees about 10 miles south of town, and the combination of the meadow, the Great Room, and the on-site cabins means your entire wedding day happens in one place without anyone needing to drive anywhere.

The Woodlands opened in 2004 and has hosted over 1,000 events. Elsa, the founder and owner, has twenty years of experience as a wedding coordinator and uses that to run a tight ship. She was born and raised in Bozeman and genuinely cares about making your day work.

Wedding Ceremony In The Meadow At The Woodlands At Cottonwood Canyon Near Bozeman Montana

A Photographer’s Take

Of all the venues I’ve photographed, The Woodlands has some of the best getting ready spaces for both partners. The Loft Bridal Suite has great natural light, and the Grooms Room gives the other party a comfortable space with a games lounge.

One thing to know: the meadow gets hot in summer. With Montana’s long summer days, there’s really no way around it unless you push your ceremony to 7 or 8pm. Most couples orient their ceremony to face the mountain backdrop, which means the sun comes in from the right side — the partner on the left takes the brunt of it. You can choose a different orientation, but you’ll get the best views facing the mountains.

Where to Get the Best Photos

The bridge leading to the ceremony area is a great portrait spot. The swing is another one couples love. But the best photos come from heading up the mountain behind the venue — you get mountain views, amazing golden hour light, and great variety all in one location. The canyon backdrop works well for more intimate portraits too.
