Why I Love Photographing at Roys Barn
Almost every other wedding I shoot takes place in a barn, and Roys needs to be number one on your list if you are looking for a barn wedding venue near Bozeman. The barn was built in 1904, it sits at the base of the Bridger Mountains surrounded by grain fields, and you get unobstructed 360-degree views because there is nothing around to block them.
What makes it work so well for photos is the combination of open farmland and tree cover. The trees around the property give your guests shade on hot days and give me softer light to work with, while the fields and mountain views give you that big Montana landscape. Dan and Nancy Roys have hosted over 325 weddings here since 2000, and couples I have worked with consistently rave about them. Most venues are beautiful — it is the people behind the business that make the difference, and this is where Roys excels.

The Barn
The barn is an authentic 1904 Montana barn that Dan and Nancy lovingly restored starting in 1995. The main floor has a shaded area for food and drinks, a bar room with a refrigerator and sweet bar display, and space for indoor ceremonies as a weather backup. The loft has twinkly lighting and is used for dancing.
The barn accommodates up to 200 guests and is available June through October only. They book one wedding per weekend — you get exclusive access the afternoon before, the full wedding day, and the morning after.

Ceremony and Outdoor Spaces
The primary ceremony spot is the wedding meadow across the creek — an open field with the Bridger Mountains as the backdrop. The property has a manicured lawn with colorful flower beds, a creek running through shaded willow trees, stone walking paths, and views of grain fields stretching to the western horizon.

Photo Spots at Roys Barn
The wedding meadow across the creek with the Bridger Mountains behind it is the obvious ceremony and portrait spot. The grain fields surrounding the property give you a wide-open Montana landscape in every direction — sunset shots over the summer crops are incredible. The tree-lined creek with the stone walking paths is great for portraits with shade and depth. Inside, the loft with the twinkly lights gives you a warm, intimate feel for reception and dancing shots. And the red barn exterior is a classic backdrop.
