Lauren & Nik’s Forest Wedding at The Woodlands at Cottonwood Canyon

Lauren walked into The Woodlands at Cottonwood Canyon wanting one thing above all: to marry Nik in the most beautiful place she could find. The two had been circling the idea for a while. Nik drawn to mountains and the woods, Lauren shaping a soft palette of pinks and summer light. They picked a venue that felt like both of them. Tall pines, a clearing for the ceremony, and just enough wildness to make every moment feel like it belonged to them.

A wedding tucked into the timber

The Woodlands at Cottonwood Canyon sits just outside Bozeman, where the road bends through pines and the air thins out enough to slow you down. The property does a lot of the heavy lifting on its own. There’s a bridal suite at one end, a separate getting-ready space for the grooms, a ceremony clearing cut into the trees, and a wood-and-glass barn for the reception. For a couple like Lauren and Nik, who wanted the forest to be the backdrop and their people to be the focus, it was the right call.

Getting ready

Lauren got ready in the bridal suite with her bridesmaids and her mom. There were earrings going in at the vanity, lipstick in the mirror, and the easy chaos of a room full of women who’ve known each other for a long time. Nik and his groomsmen were across the property doing the same. Quieter. Ties getting fixed and fixed again.

The ceremony

At 4 PM, parents walked down a tree-lined aisle and the wedding party followed. Lauren came down last, and Nik watched her the whole way. They exchanged rings under a white floral arch with the wedding party flanking them and the forest closing in behind. The kiss was short and certain, the recessional was the loudest thing about the day, and the whole ceremony came in just under 25 minutes.

Portraits and the reception

After the ceremony, family formals happened on the grass while guests headed into cocktail hour. Lauren’s veil caught the wind. We wrapped bridal party shots before sunset and took the time we needed for couple portraits in the trees. Reception started at 6 with seared salmon, herb-roasted chicken, and a charcuterie spread that disappeared faster than the plates could be refilled. Nik gave a toast outside the barn with the whole wedding party gathered, drinks in hand, phones aimed at him.
